Family and Juvenile Law in Tucson

We can help you navigate through the court to protect the best interest of the child.

Many areas of Family and Juvenile law overlap with each other, especially when it relates to the protection of our children. For instance, in Arizona we have a law called “in loco parentis” which permits persons acting as caretakers for a child in place of the parent (including grandparents) to file a custody or visitation action. Perhaps you are a grandparent seeking more quality time with your grandchildren after their parents have separated or divorced, there might be solutions within your grasp. We are prepared to help you find a way to be the grandparents that your grandchildren need, if at all possible.

Due to unfortunate events, there may be a serious need to terminate the parent-child relationship. For example, the parent has abandoned a child, neglected or willfully abused a child, the parent is unable to discharge parental responsibilities because of mental illness or drug abuse. We can provide the personal attention needed to help any person who has a legitimate interest in the welfare of a child, including, but not limited to, a relative, a foster parent, or a physician file a petition for termination of the parent-child relationship.

In Arizona, a guardian can be appointed to make personal, healthcare and living arrangement decisions for a minor. Guardianship is always a court proceeding where only the court can create the actual guardianship. If you are a relative seeking guardianship status on behalf of a minor child in your family whom you believe is in need of protection, discuss your options with one of our attorneys.

Our firm also handles the legal process of adoption that creates the relationship of parent and child between individuals who are not biological parent and child. We are determined to find answers that work for our clients, however, we do not handle the specialty areas of dependencies, delinquencies or Child Protective Services cases.
